Generating and Modifying Passwords

As a Reseller, you would have to assist your Customers, if they happen to forget their Username / Password for accessing their Control Panel. In such cases, there are 4 methods available for you. You can select any of the following methods to help your Customer login to their Control Panel:

 

Forgot Password

This method would be useful when your Customer has forgotten his Password:

  1. The Customer need to visit the Control Panel Login URL at http://manage.whois.com/customer.

  2. Click the Forgot Password link.

  3. Provide his Username (Email Address) and click the Forgot Password button.

This would send an email to his email address, containing the login URL, Username and a Temporary Password. The Customer can then login to his Control Panel with this Password and then change the original Password, through the Settings -> Change Password menu.

Please note that this Password would be effective for 3 days only. Also, during this time both the original Password and the Temporary Password would work for logging in.

 

Send Password

This is another method you can use when the Customer has forgotten his Password. This would be useful if he does not even remember his Username. In this case, you can follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Search for the Customer and proceed to the Customer Details view. 1

  2. In the Customer Details, click the Send Password button.

This would send an email to his email address, containing the login URL, Username and a Temporary Password. The Customer can then login to his Control Panel with this Password and then change the original Password, through the Settings -> Change Password menu.

Please note that this Password would be effective for 3 days only. Also, during this time both the original Password and the Temporary Password would both work for logging in.

 

Change Password

This method would be useful if a Customer who has forgotten his Password and is also unable to get the Temporary Password via email. As a last step, you can change his Password. You need to follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Search for the Customer and proceed to the Customer Details view. 2

  2. In the Customer Details, click the Change Password button.

  3. Provide a New Password and then Confirm Password.

    Note

    You need to consider the following, in relation with your password:

    • Allowed password length is 8 to 15 characters.

    • Use a combination of capital and lowercase letters, with punctuation marks, special characters and numbers.

    • Change the password on a regular basis.

    • Avoid password that contains personal information (name, birth place, etc.) or dictionary words.

    • Avoid using repeating characters (aaaaaa), keyboard patterns (asdfgh) or sequential numbers (123456).

    • Do not disclose your password to anyone.

  4. Click the Change Password button to save the changes.

Contrary to the above 2 methods, this would change the Customer's Control Panel Password permanently. Your Customer can then login with this Password.

 

Generating Temporary Password

Using the method mentioned below, you can yourself login to the Customer's Control Panel, by generating a Temporary Password for it. Just follow the simple steps mentioned below:

  1. Search for the Customer and proceed to the Customer Details view. 3

  2. In the Customer Details, click the Generate Temporary Password button.

This will present you with the login URL, Username and a Temporary Password for the Customer.

Please note that this Password would be effective for 3 days only. Also, during this time both the original Password and the Temporary Password would both work for logging in.

 

Note

The notification mails mentioned in the first 2 scenarios above will always be sent, irrespective of what mail preferences you have chosen for your Customers.
